Creating a Search
Check out this product tutorial which will walk you through these steps on your screen!
- Select Content from the left-hand side navigation bar
- Select Searches
- Select the medium you'd like to search across via the 'I'm searching for' drop-down menu
- Enter a word or phrase into the Search box and press Enter. If you'd like to write your keywords in Boolean, select 'Advanced Search' on the right of the search bar.
- Use the three Keyword boxes to specify the words you want to include/exclude from your search.
- Adjust the Date Range and Source Selection to broaden or narrow your results.
- Select Update Search Results to review the content matching your keywords. If there are irrelevant results, add keywords to the three searching box to refine the results
- Click Save
The following short video is an example of how to create a simple search. We recommend copying the steps within your platform while watching the video!
The example below will return content that must include "apple" but only if it also includes "watch" or "iwatch". To limit the risk of false positives we've added exclusion terms for "apple sauce", "apple juice" and "apple orchard" or "apple orchards" (the asterisk * is a wildcard).
Boolean Search Language
In addition to the simple search with three boxes to get you started, Meltwater uses Boolean search logic to structure more indepth keywords to refine your search results to your needs. Boolean is a type of search that allows you to combine keywords with operators (or modifiers) such as AND, NOT and OR (to name a few) to produce more relevant results.

How to Refine your Search Results
There are three main ways to refine the results within your searches:
1. Boolean Search Logic
2. Date Range
Each search allows you to view up to a year at a time, to view content from beyond the last 12 months be sure to change the end date to the past. For example, August 1st 2018 - July 31st 2019.

Quick Tools for your Articles
Now that you've found your articles, there are a group of Quick Tools to help you share and further understand this content. These can be loaded by using the tick box (1) or via the three dots next to each article (2).
