On April 4th, 2018 Facebook announced a variety of API changes for both the Instagram and Facebook platform. These changes are mandatory. One of these changes is the retirement of the legacy Instagram API to be replaced with the Business Profiles API.
Business profiles are a free feature for accounts wanting to be recognized as a business on Instagram. Brands with a business profile can choose how they want their customers to get in touch with them: call, text or email with a tap of the contact button as well as get directions. Other added benefits are, access to analytics and Instagram ads.
How to ensure your business is verified:
Convert to a Business Profile
You must convert your existing Instagram profile to a Business Profile. This should be completed as soon a possible. You may move your profile over to a Business profile now (as of May 25th) with no immediate consequences. These steps are to be completed:
- Log in to your Instagram account and go to settings.
- Tap “Switch to Business Profile”. *Make sure you set your profile to Public. Private accounts can't switch to Business Accounts.
- Instagram will prompt you to connect to a Facebook business page (note: you need to have Admin access to the Facebook page in order to convert to an Instagram Business Profile).
- Add details such as your business or profile’s category and contact information.
- Tap Done.
